The CleverTrainer is a PDA-based application for the Palm™ and Pocket PC. It is a portable language trainer where Cleverlearn subscribers can test their English skills. Through the CleverTrainer, they can review and practice their vocabulary anytime they want and in practically any place.
This can be done through synchronizing the CleverTrainer with the Clicktionary. The CleverTrainer copies the words found in the subscriber’s Personal Vocabulary, which is built using the Clicktionary in the PC. The synchronization process ensures that the PV in both the CleverTrainer and the Clicktionary are identical.
The release of the CleverTrainer for Pocket PC in July 2003 marked a milestone in electronic teaching. It made possible for e-learners, comprised mostly of people who represent the hustle and bustle of today’s lifestyle, to fully recognize the advantages of e-learning. This service, developed for Pocket PC 2000 and 2002 platforms, implements the objective of testing, and allows for a convenient and faster learning for its users.
In a bid to provide total e-learning experience, Cleverlearn upgraded the CleverTrainer for Palm OS platforms shortly after the introduction of its Pocket PC version. The Palm OS Version 2.0 is fully enhanced with dictionaries on English-Chinese, English-Vietnamese, and English-German. The objective-type test has also been incorporated into the application. With these enhancements, Cleverlearn subscribers definitely get an edge in online education.
The CleverTrainer can be synchronized with the Clicktionary by using Microsoft®’s ActiveSync desktop application. However, the CleverTrainer cannot work without first downloading the updated version of the Clicktionary. It is dependent on the other for its vocabulary base.
