Cleverlearn Celebrates 5th year Anniversary

New York/ Regensburg, 9 February 2004 – Cleverlearn® Ltd., one of the pioneering providers of electronic technology for teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL), celebrates its 5th year in the industry.

Cleverlearn started out as a small start-up company, tracing its earlier beginnings in a modest office in Regensburg in the year of the Internet boom. It first introduced its flagship product, the Clicktionary™, which provided single-mouse click translations of English and German words in a text. Around this time, e-learning was a byword for a radical change in the area of learning. In an era, in which existed a lot of skepticisms toward education in the World Wide Web, it was a high risk to open up to this new, but also promising market. Cleverlearn had to precisely plan its product range, the target group and the corporate strategy. Over the years, it managed to overcome the first obstacles, and successfully built up the e-learning industry.

Today, Cleverlearn has a customer database of 200,000 e-learners in Germany alone. Successful in its expansion to other countries, the company opened headquarters in New York and Hong Kong, as well as a “Content Production Center” in Cebu (Philippines). The number of employees increased from five people to 300 in more than 11 countries. Cleverlearn Learning tools are now available worldwide, but the bulk of its customer base came from Europe and Asia. Further extending its reach, it has also opened up language schools in China and Vietnam.

Cleverlearn is well established. It has over five million euros of liquid assets, and is one of the survivors of the Dot-Com boom. The main investors of the company are Michael Gleissner, Ulrike Stadler (founder of the E-Commerce Pioneer “ABC Bücherdienst,” which later became Amazon.de) and the Dornier family.

The company sees a bright future ahead. The globalization trend creates a need to understand and speak the English language. The constant development, in terms of speed, easy access and price/benefit of technology and Internet, forecasts a great growth in       e-learning compared to the traditional teaching methods.

Cleverlearn celebrates half a decade of revolutionary concepts and developments, making it easier for e-learners to study English in a convenient, anywhere-anytime environment. For the company, this milestone could only mean a reinforcement of goals in further enhancing its products: the Clicktionary™, the Word Reminder™, the CleverHandy™, the CleverCourse™ and the CleverTrainer™.
